Deep Creek Lake Real Estate Search by Jon Bell. Jon has been selling real estate in the Deep Creek Lake, Wisp Resort and Garrett County area for years and knows the market well. Jon created the Deep Creek Real Estate Blog to keep his clients up-to-date with real estate trends and local Deep Creek happenings.

I I have lived in the Deep Creek Lake area for over 8 years and on average I see two to three bears per year. I can usually spot them while driving the back roads of Garrett County or hiking thru the state parks and rural properties / farm lands that I sell. I will never forget the time I was hiking on a farm that I was about to put on the market around 8:30 in the morning. The hay was over waist height, the sun was shining in my eyes and the ground was pretty hard to walk. The other real estate agent and I were talking and must have been making a lot of noise. Without knowing we walked up on and startled a bear who was laying down about 50 yards in front of us. He stood up on his back legs, looked at us and started running away from us. After we both finished screaming like a group of 5 year old girls we watched him run off into the woods. It was AWESOME!

It is always exciting to see an animal this large in the wild and truly amazing to see how fast they move when they run. Remember that bears are Garrett County natives. If you spend a lot of time in the area you are sure to see one. Even if you are out looking for one and you think you are prepared your heart will still skip a beat when you first see him.

When Noelle and I lived in Sky Valley there was a bear that would walk up onto my deck a few times per year and eat all of the bird food from the feeders. I was once about 3 feet from him/her and i was surprised at how slow moving and calm he seemed. He was completely different than the bear I had scene in the field. This time I was brave and got a lot of great pictures 1) because he didn't know I was there and 2) There was a closed sliding glass door between us.....

There are a lot of Deep Creek locals and long time tourist that tell stories about seeing a bear swim across the lake. I have never scene a swimming bear but.....I have pictures. These pictures were taken by a friend of, Beverly Hunley (a friend / customer of mine) just a few weeks ago during the 2007 summer season. What a great experience it must have been to watch the bear swim across the lake. I am glad that they had a camera handy.

I would like to thank Beverly for sending me these pictures. If you have any interesting pictures of Garrett County wildlife please email them to jbell@railey.com along with an explanation and I will post them on this blog.
