Deep Creek Lake is located in Garrett County and is the largest fresh water lake in the state of Maryland. The lake was constructed in 1925 as a hydro-electric plant with approximately 65 miles of shoreline covering 3,900 acres.
Deep Creek Lake is spring fed with natural flow creating a beautiful, clean environment for swimming, water-skiing, wake boarding, tubing, sailing and fishing. The lake completely freezes in the winter months allowing the increasingly popular sport of ice fishing.
The Deep Creek Lake area is also home to Wisp Mountain Resort which is Maryland's only snow sking area. The owners of Wisp Mountain Resort have recently created new ski trails (there are over 100 acres of skiable terrain) and acquired a new award award-winning snow making system which was named "the best in the mid-Atlantic." Combine this snow making capability with the 80+ inch annual snow fall and you have a great ski area!
